Fixing to change water pump on my 47 2n. Some parts stores tell me the pumps for 2n's and 8n's are the same, others say they are different. The FO4 showes different rebuild kits but I don't see any external difference. Will they interchange. Which one to get?

Thanks Roland

Been there, Done that.

I was sold the wrong water pump and was down for a weekend, until I drove 60 miles to get the correct one. There is one for 9N, 2N & early 8n. Up to 1948 I believe. This neck comes straight up out of the middle of the pump. See pic that follows.

Then there is another style for later 8N’s. This neck comes out the side of the pump. See pic that follows

I have 2 1951 8N's, 1 1952 8N, 1 1947 2N, two used and one brand new water pump in and around my shop and all 7 water pumps are the same! Can't see where anything else could be needed, also have checked 1940 repair manual and 1948 manual and all water pump intakes point the same direction. Are sure one of those pumps was not for the NAA and later engines?

Not Sure. I have a 9N. When the pump is installed, the neck is pointing about 45-degree angle down, out towards the left side. The other style that I was sold, and was wrong for me, would have pointed out towards the right side (I think). There is a slightly different bolt pattern also.

This is just a WAG.. as I don't have an f0-4 or MPC in front of me.. but could it be that since the block for the 9/2/early 8n are nearly identical, and the block for the later 8n is slightyl differnt.. that that would be the difference for the water pump... the distribuitor setup that is...??

Again.. just a WAG...

One size fits all.The aftermarket ones come with the gen. belt adjusting brkt. that is used on the side mt. dists.but it doesn't hurt to leave the brkt. on for the frt. mt. dists. don
