I just realized today that my '48 8N is worth more than both of my cars.

Combined.

That's kinda scary.

Yes it is.... paid $1500 for my working '48 8N and sold my old '87 Bronco for $500. Clutch and rear end in the 8N are in better shape after 55 years than the Bronco after 12 years..... makes ya wonder.

Very good point. I will add this to the argument with the wife on why "The tractor should be in the garage."

Down in Florida, I am amazed of all of the garages that eventually are used for storing "yard-sale" items, instead of autos. or tractors. :})

Most of us are paying more for our N's than when they were new... ( not adjusted dollars mind you.. but is still an irony in itself.. )
Could be viewed as an investment..heh heh

my father has the reciepts from my grandfathers NAA, he bought it new off the dealer lot in 1955, it was a leftover from the previous year. it was around 1600 bucks i believe my dad said, i will have to pull out those reciepts tho and look at it sometime to see if that included the sherman tranny, live pto kit, lever operated parking brake(the one that goes over the top of the 2 pedals) and loading all 4 tires with fluid. all this was done at the dealer so i think it was included but im not sure, and also come to think of it, he had traded in a beat up 8N also so it may be that $1600 was just what he owed after the trade in.

yea its funny how that works, the most i ever spent on a truck was 1200 bucks for a 10 year old toyota, and i realy thought that was alot. yet i was thrilled when i found my 1969 ford 8000 for 4 grand, yet i would have never considered spending 4 grand on a truck, just too much money to spend on something that loses value so fast.

I know what you mean.

1980 Ford E-150 300,000 miles.
1989 Ford Escort 200,000 miles.
Maytag washer and dryer 30yrs.

Tough to know when "beyond economical repair".

So far, good as new!

Terrible when you figger, no "book" value left.

""Terrible when you figger, no "book" value left. ""

Exactly my point. I've got a van that I no longer use.. is old enough and with enough miles.. and few features.. that it is virtually worth nothing.. yet runs good and has 'life' left in it.

I am in a business where I sell non-self-supporting equipment. The equipment that I carry in my van is always worth more than the van itself. So, like an airplane, I keep 2 sets of logs. Engine and airframe. In this case when I changed engines last year, it is like having an airplane with only 5000 hrs. on the airframe.

It has been my esxperience that the value of most automobiles is based on looks rather than mechanicals, anyway.

Hadn't looked at it that way. 93 Buick Century, 140,000. 94 Dodge Dakota, 128,000. vs 1948 8N, 200 hrs on complete engine rebuild, 4 new tires. Lots of little things done to it. Yep, definately worth more.

Or they are not old enough...

Thinking seriously though.. depending on your geographical area..and the condition of your tractor an N can be from 1000 - 4000 bucks for worker - parade queen. Take a late 80's or early 90's no collectible auto... 100K+ miles.. perhaps other small problems .. but runs... think of the sale value...
Easy to see how a tractor can hold its value against an automobile...
