Went up to the farm/hunt house yesterday to do some tinkering on the 8n. Since you guy's answered all my questions about FUEL CONSUMPTION I thought I would do my own test on the reserve fuel flow. I drained the main tank and then with about a inch of fuel left in the tank I turned the wheel all the way out.....nothing happened. I pulled the fuel valve assembly out and found gunk inside the top of the assembly. I cleaned everything but still cannot get any air thru to the inside of the valve. The main reason is because I can't find, and do not see, any opening from the top of the assembly except the main fuel opening which is a brass tube. It sits down in a little well and I swear their isn't another hole down their that I can see. When I pull the wheel assembly all the way out, with a light I can see two outlet feeds coming into that section of the valve. I'm pretty sure that my assembly is original because the wheel says 2 turns for main tank then all the way out for reserve. Am I looking in the correct place for reserve fuel inlet?

Roby,

Mine was so plugged up with rust and varnish that it was like solid metal!! There IS a hole in there. :-)

It should be in line with the brass tube that is the main gas feed, along the axis of the valve stem. Probe down along beside the brass tube with a small screw driver or pick or scratch all. Eventually you'll find it and can get it clear.

Regards,
Larry

Thanks Guy's, Their was a hole way down in there and so plugged up it was as Larry said, solid as steel. I finally got it opened up real good and put a bunch of metal filter screen in there to try to keep it open. should work for a while. Thanks again.

Hey Roby how's it going. I haven't actually had one out and in my hand recently but your sediment bowl should have a brass stem about an inch or so long with a hole in top and another down lower in the tank where the gunk collects. Use a piece of tag wire or a tip cleaner to open em up. I like to also use carb spray as it will loosen up the gunk better and squirt in my eye's when I miss the hole.

turn off gas by the sediment bowl, disconnect the gas line from the sediment bowl. put a clean gas can under or whatever to collect the tank-gas. open the gas knob all the way if you want all the gas out of the tank, if you only open the gas knob less than two turns, you will still have a reserve of gas in the tank. take the sediment bowl off and unscrew the rest of whats left out of the gas tank, there will be alittle more gas in the tank so either siphon the rest out or plug the hole and take the hood off and really clean it out. also you can take a air hose and blow out the reserve screen and replace the round screen in the sediment bowl. its very easy. wash out the old sediment bowl too. you may actually see something like gas in there. you can also buy whole kits for around 20.00. last thing clean the know of your sediment bowl and it tell you , open less than 2 turns for reserve to work, open over 2 turns to use reserve gas.
