I am an old man. Have ruined truck engine and radiator with stop leak. These products should not be used. They may stop your leak, but they will stop up small passages ways in the radiator, engine, heater core, etc. Stop leak products can even cause blocks to crack; by stopping up small -passages and causing localized overheating. The only good way to stop a radiator leak is to pull the radiator and have a radiator shop fix it right. When you put anything other than 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water, you are asking for long term trouble with your engine.

Stop leaks like bars leak are great and they do most of the time work very well but if you use them to much they can plug up the radiator. Black pepper only works in nonpreasurised systems Or thats the way it was 40 years ago ( use 1 or 2 cans of stop leak hope it works for you ) It probably will.

I have used stop leak twice in my life, once many years ago on my first car and just the other day on my 2n. The leaks were both in the radiator and each time it stopped the leaks. BUT - both times the water pump failed soon after!! I have to assume the pumps were weak anyway and the added pressure of a leakless system made the pumps go bad. Anyone else had this happen?

Waiting for the UPS guy to bring me a new waterpump,
Darren

the trouble with stop leak is, it works too good. all those little capilarys that carry water through your radiator are very small. and when you have an old radiator, add rust, lime, calcium from age and a little neglect. all it takes is a little stop leak to stop it up solid. for you it made your water pumps fail. my truck it blew out the water hose going into the radiator because it stopped the water from flowing through the radiator. best bet , take it to a radiator repair man ,now this is if its really old. have the radiator man check it out. and then go buy a new one. usually those little pin holes start showing in all the funniest places. hope this helps. in the long run you spend alot less buying a new one. i have owned mostly old vehicles and have bought many old used radiators for cars that have alot of rust in them, then you have them cleaned out professionally and thats when the little pin holes show up. and you can fix and fix and fix. so again my advise is buy a new one.

Get the radiator off quick. To radiator repair shop. Have a complete rod-out done. Flush motor good. Stop leak products will ruin your engine.

I used some one time and it worked great. It came in a little brown jar, seems like the name started with a "B", but not sure. I think it was calls "Bars Leak" or something like that. But it worked. I heard black pepper works too, but never tried it.

A product from NAPA called Iron Tight I have heard works well. I personally have used Barr's Stop Leak with variable success. For external leaks ie. water pump crack, I have used JB Weld with excellent success. It may take up to three layers of epoxy before the seal is complete, but going on two years now with no leaks. You may notice I am frugal or as my wife says cheap !
