I know that none of us have these handy little devices on our steering wheels for safety reasons, but what does yours say on it. Mine is from the Omaha Irrigation Pump Co.,Omaha Neb. How it got on an 8N in upstate NY I'll never know.

You have a great antique. I remember these were the premium tractor steering knobs in the 1950s and 60s. It is cast or/and spun aluminum with ball bearings (I've got one in a box somewhere) Absolutely a favored add-on in the days before finger-light power-steering. These Omaha knobs were sold nationwide and were a prestige item compared to the cheaper ones that were made of plastic (sometimes with girlies) and no ball bearings. Beats me why this forum claims they are dangerous now. We loved 'em when we were young and strong and there was no power steering. Mike-Iowa

A spinner knob is the first thing I add to any Ford we fix up in the shop. Makes operating so much easier!

OK, I'm the dumb one here. What's the safety issue? Better tell me so I'll never make the mistake of replacing mine when it wears out!

I agree,"What's the safety issue"
If I had one on my truck someone would probably tell me that it is illegal in some states.
Why I don't know. Guess maybe cause some people like to use them to cut donuts?
It would probably work real good to drive with.
But mine wouldn't have any writing on it and unfortunately no pretty girls either.

Never ever wrap your thumb around it. It's a real good way to hit a hole with a wheel and have your thumb all of a sudden at a funny angle. Not that I've ever had that happen because the one that I don't have is made of wood. It originally came off a Farmall H.

Well strap my face to a pig trough, I'll be darned. I personally would NEVER use one of those easy steering devices, BUT if I were to use one, MINE would have the exact writing as your's does. It would say its from the Omaha Irrigation pump company. I am Western N.Y. (Buffalo). What a small world.

Omaha Irrigation Pump must have had an active salesman around here. That is a heck of a coincidence. I bought my '49 from a guy in Clifton Springs about 6 years ago.

Pitch, When I was growing up in the 50's my Dad had spinner knobs on the 9N & 8N tractors. Both had rather well endowed bare breasted women on them.

Still remember them to this day. Would like to find a set.

And yes, He lectured us on the safety issues of holding on to "the Gals". He was right, they can turn on you in an instant, and cause all sorts of pain!

Funny thing, my Mom always acted as if "the Gals" never existed. She would advert her eyes, and I am sure the few times she drove the N's, she never touched the spinner knobs.

Dad,,,, Thanks for the memories!

IF I had one, it'd probably be a new one (unpainted) that I picked up recently at Tractor Supply. I probably would have never noticed any writing on it... It would probably make steering a little easier, too...
