Aux transmissions in your area, what type are most frequently encountered.

I had this question posed to me and would like to know what and where they would be encountered.

Thanks. ATW/WA

Out here in the middle of KANSAS,It`s mostly Shermans. some of you will remember last spring; I had an EVERETT I couldn`t get off the 8N trans. Well, It finally came off; thanks to WD-40. Some lucky guy In cal. owns it now. I`ve seen one other just like it here, and have seen a HUPP. I think the shift handle is on the rt. side on the HUPP.

Hi Tom. Yeah, I AM lucky that you took the trouble to answer my inquiry! On the board today is some stories of just the kind of guy we all hope to avoid. Some skunk that sells junk and makes it tough for the rest of us to trust. If he has kids, I'd bet anything they grew up to be lawyers. Hey, anybody know of someone that has collected an example of ALL the different aux trans? That would be interesting to see at one of the shows.
(to me anyway)

My son and I stopped to look over a line of Fords that were to be pulling grape gondolas the next day. 6 or 7 of the hundred series and a couple of older blues. Maybe ten tractors in all. Four of the hundreds had Sherman combo levers out the left side. Man was I jealous. Shermans are the most common. I have 2 Everett creepers, a half dozen Sherman combos, 3 Sherman step-ups, and I know where there's a Howard Rotovator complete with the trencher on 1/2 a Massey. I have the number of the salvage yard if anyone is interested. I've never seen a Hupp or any of the other "exotics" tho.

Interesting question. I'd say maybe 1 out of 15 or so I've seen in So. Central and So. Texas have been aux. Maybe 50% Shermans.

And, come to think of it, about every 4th I've seen for sale from an individual (not the dealers or collectors) didn't even know they had an aux tranny. If I had more room and if Mrs. Evil Steve didn't know... LOL

I haven't seen more than three Shermans in the area south of Dallas. Of course I haven't seen all of them up close, but the point is I have seen alot of N's not many with an aux. tranny's. Probably because they cost extra. (%^)

I think they may have been more common down this-a-way because of soils conditions (more clay and rock).
