Standard diagnostic procedure would start with checking fuel flow at the bottom of the carb by pulling the plug in it. flow should be a good healthy steady stream that does not taper off. If not, there are 3 filters.. one in the carb elbow, one in the fuel bowl, and one in the tank on top of the fuel valve. Next is to check for vacume leak... can be anything from a bad carb gasket to a manifold gasket.. to a cracked manifold. As a hint.. if choke helps the poer loss.. it may be a vacume leak, ( or cloged fuel line / plugged tank vent). A plugged tank vent is easy to diagnose from there.. as opening the gas cap immediatly restores smooth running. Usually it takes about 15 minutes to pull a vacume on the tank if the vent is plugged and the cap is sealed..etc. If that isn't it, look at the fuel itself.. lotsa water? Getting air from the breather? Check by temporarily removing the breather tube to the carb... Next move to the electricals.. look for loose connections.. remember.. keep everything clean bright and tight. Are your plugs good? any oil fouled? Spark good and blue? Work thru it till you find it... basically all you gotta have is spark at the right time, fuel, and air... good luck Soundguy
