You can run it dry, or put Sta-Bil in the tank, run it a few minutes & get it in the carb; either or, doesn't matter. I like to keep the tank full all winter as a rust prevenative, so I use Sta-Bil. Take the plugs out, mist the cylinders real well w/ oil. Jack the tractor off the wheels. Block the clutch. Make real sure you do not have any water in the hydraulics; if so, and it freezes, good-by pump & $500. Take the battery out & take it home w/ you for the winter. If you don't keep it in a barn or shed, pay a few bucks for a good tarp and cover it. Before you start it in the spring, check it real carefully for mouse nests in the air filter, tool box, etc. Finally, because my memory ain't what it used to be, the 8N manual has an entire chapter on storage procedures, so check that out.

After I turn off the fuel at the gascolator, I let the engine run 'till she dies. Then I drain the carburetor by removing the drain plug under the carb bowl. We just drain the water from the block and radiator. Years ago, we used kersoene as an antifreeze. I guess that most of the younger guys never heard of such a thing.

Although I am only 58, I was raised by parents who were in their 50's when I was born, and, they experienced WW1 and WW2, the depressions, etc.

In the days of the 9N's, anti-freeze was hard to git. As a carry-over from the earlier days, kerosene was used as anti-freeze. Or you had to remove the water after each trip with the old Model A's and put water back in before the next trip. I am sure that a lot of cars burnt-up if a radiator hose broke, though.

So, with my older parent's bringing, I can appreciate some of those old values and methodology.

And..... ..an A Model Ford, once started on gasoline, will run on kerosene. I still remember my aunt, who just turned 85, making soap & rendering lard. Waste not, want not.
