Hi guy's, quick question, where do I find a place to buy a new shifter boot, and do I need to remove the shifter "plate" to install the new boot? Thanks in advance....Randy

I use a piece of inner-tube, tied off with some nylon cord. Has worked well for years.

If you buy one of those taiwan aftermarket boots that these guys are talking about, you have to cook it, season it, roll it in flour and fry it just to get it to fit. So I'd buy 2 of them in case you tear the first one installing it. Or buy a reproduction one that was made to fit and takes seconds to install. And there's no need to cook it until tender. LMAO!!

I know a guy in NC that sells them. Email me for more info if interested.

I bought a chinese shift boot and the only way I could get it on was to use the air hose and inflate the da*% thing like a balloon and then it still didn't fit quite right. Get a ford boot!

Along with what the other guys said.. I've had good luck at rolling hte boot up on itself a bit.. right at the bottom.. then down over the 'nipple' it mounts into. Make sure the groove it sets in is clean.. it will fill with crud over the years.

Randy..... ....the shifter boot for the 8N is different than the 9N, but they install essentually the same way. TIP: carry your rubber shifter boot innna potta BOILING WATER to your tractor so it'll stretch eazily over your shifter lever and down over your tranny neck..... ...Dell

No need to remove plate. Remove the screw on knob on later model 8Ns. Boot just slips over. Can't say for cast knobs.
