Have an 52 8N in good shape. Engine cranks but won't fire. I have used it twice this summer to bush hog and it started and ran fine. This happened all of a sudden. Plugs look good, air filter is clean and the gas looks clean. Could it be bad gas or electrical? Plugs, wires, and coil are two years old. 6 volt system. Battery one year old. Any clues on where to start looking? Thanks in advance to all you 8N mechanics out there.

I would try a new set of points and condenser.

Check for spark at the plugs first- gas OFF ignition ON, then a quick compression test- ignition OFF gas OFF,remove plugs, stick finger in each plug hole by turn and hit starter-if it pushes your finger off the hole, you should have enough compression.
Also check your timing. Move look-see hatch over left side of flywheel, get it to 4 degrees (I think) after TDC, look and see if rotor tip is facing #1 spark plug wire.
Remove bottom bolt beneath carb enough to check for flow.
Check 3 filters in fuel system, one at elbow in carb, sediment bowl, and in the tank.
Weak spark could be bad points, point gap .015"
I have started mine up on weak spark by removing all plugs and heating up the gap tips with a propane torch (Not red hot, just too hot to touch hot..) then reinstalling them and waiting a minute before trying to start it.
Good luck-and search the archives here-lots of info-

Check the usual.

jumper key switch, check fuel at bottom of carb. Check points for open/close, and condition (burnt? ).
Check voltage at top of coil... front( 3.5 / batt closed / open) or side mount 0 closed, batt open..
Check for spark from a pulled plug.
If it will pull start but not crank-start.. might be low compression..., do a compression test... perhaps your rings stuck from sitting?

Also check air inlet...could be plugged.

good luck.. I'm sure others will chime in with more / better advice.
