I put Champion H10 plugs in my 9N in the Spring and has been running on only 3 cylinders lately. Want to change to Autolite 437. Do I use same gap as the Champions? I hope this will fix my baby only running on 3 cylinders, if it doesn't, then I am in trouble.

1Armbandit. I wonder if a bad plug is your real problem. I would pull, clean & regap them and attempt to find out which cylinder is not fireing. Then check to see if you have spark to that cylinder. If you have good spark, then it could be a plug problem. If no spark, then what? I would check the sparkie wire, distributor cap, rotor in that order. Could be as simple as the spark plug wire not making good contact in the distributor cap, its happen to me. Post back and let us know what solved your problem. Good luck. Ron

1arm: I have been using champion H-12's with good success. They're hotter than the 10's. All plugs gapped at .025"

Sorry mis-read your question. The gap for your sparkies is always the same no matter who produced them. .025 to .028. I use the Champion 844 which is the new # for the old 10's.

Cap'n..... ...those are the correct ignition point gaps, 0.025 for sidemount and 0.015 for frontmount distributors..... BUT..... the bandit asked about the sparkplug gap which is 0.025 for all N's and all sparkie heatranges and mfgrs..... .....respectfully, Dell

Dell, you are right. That is why I went back and re-read the question. And then send the sparkie gaps. I have a very bad habit of reading what I think the question should be, not what it is..Must be old age..
respectfully. me

Anyone know where to get denso plugs at?

I recently changed the denso 18mm plugs outta my (cough) green machine.. and put in some champion d21's.. which were at the bottom of my list of acceptable replacements.. though are working much better than the old fouled / burnt denso's that were in to... ( lu-14 ) I think was the number.

When I mention denso to the local parts house here.. I get blank stares back...

Also.. are 18mm plugs really that rare today... I went to three different parts houses with a large list of champion, autolite, AC and denso part numbers for cross for those plugs... must been 10 different numbers I could use... one place .. and auto zone.. had the 'last' on my list. ( I had oem and 'hotter' plugs crossed.. and was looking for a hotter than a d21.. etc. )

thanks guys

as a side note.. I see most of the JD guys don't respect the champion plug much.. yet it was listed as the oem plug in the manual.. just like our N's.... which seem to run fine onthe newer h12.. etc... ideas why?

Champion used to be a top notch plug. For some reason, that is no longer the case. I installed a set of Champions in my 1948 B JD and in just a short time the right cylinder was not firing at all. I went to AC and have had them in the tractor for five or six years with no problem. My nephew is a professional mechanic and the last I knew he hadn't installed Champion plugs in anything for several years.

Thanks for the input.. my green machine is a 50 'B'.

If I might ask... what were the champion plugs you used? and what were the AC plugs you went to?

Also.. if you have any othe rplug numbers that will fit.. I will add them to the list I am making.. it would be greatly appreciated.. as the -only- plugs I can find are the ch d21's... etc.

thanks

I unhid my email if you want to reply off sub.. etc.

Thanks again
