Well after spliting 2N and replacing ring gear, throwout bearing, clutch plate, and pilot bearing, I noticed the Bendix (new type)was sticking on occasion. I figured it was time to replace the starter drive as a completion to the two day job.
I went to New Holland and got a new starter drive and installed it, and it locked up on the ring gear and would not release. I thought that those forign parts were the cause and returned to New Holland with the new Bendix on the old starter suggesting that the drive may be the problem.
They were very nice and co-operative, not really knowing any more than I what could be the problem. We were just about to give up when one of the New Holland personel indicated that maybe we should check the shaft. The best we could tell it was bent about .040.
I putchased a rebuilt starter from them, returned home added the old starter drive, and installed in 2N.
Starts and runs like a charm..... .....

Yep. That doubles for me. I couldn't turn over the engine. THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY. I got what the New holland dealer said was a brand new starter made by LUCAS, and had to reuse my own drive. Also worked like a charm. Now I still have the old core starter but without the drive.
