Guys, I need your help. It's time for tires on my 1950 8n. It now has 11.2x28 on rear and that's what I was going to get however I have a friend who works at a tire shop and can get me a great deal on some almost new tires (75%). The problem is they are 13.6x28 my friend says no big deal but I need your expert opinions I like saving money but I don't want to hurt the tractor. Please help!

If I were you, I wouldn't put 13.6 tires on a 10" rim. 13.6 tires should be on a 12" rim. I know people say they do it, but that doesn't make it right. With a 10" rim, the biggest I would go is 12.4, but 11.2 is best. I have seen rims get cracked by tires that were too wide, but not so much in rear tires.

Our 2N has had loaded 13.6's on stock rims forever and it hasn't caused any problems. Seems most of my problems have been caused by "operator error".

You can use 11 (12.4) x 28 ok but anything bigger if you want to use it for just running up the highway forget it, those tires if you would ever want to sell it could kill the deal. The first inch over does not make that much difference in loss of power or increased speed but go to the second inch over and it will multyply the speed gain by about 6 times, a third inch over will almost double your speed gain and wouldn't have the power to pull the hat off your head and we used to do all the farm work with my 44 2N from plowing to picking corn, we have 12.4 x 28 on it and loaded and put on homemade concrete weights of 3-400 lb. each

Randy, I bought a '48 8N that had been in use on a golf course pulling gang mowers. It had Firestone Turf tires in 13.6x28. They were mounted on 10" wheels and were cal. loaded. I got it in'91 and sold it to a neighbor in '00 when I got my newer '51 8N. The neighbor still has it and is very happy with the tires! They do look a little "high flotation" style, but are very kind to the lawn. The only shortcomming is that the tractor will drive downhill a bit unless you replace those front tires with 6.00 or 6.50x16s

I have 13.6 x 28 on the back of my 8n , no problem, the tread is quite worn and dont sink in my nice lawn like newer narrower tires would, I add chains for snow removal .These old tires are Firestone field and road tires that have cracks big enough to stick a credit card in, but they still hold air, Im wondering if they are the original .

I believe they will work but its getting close to if not a little over the max. The biggest problem is they will look like to old ballon tires on bikes. I wouldn't put fliud in them and I'd make sure you had say around 15 to 20 psi. They also won't last as long as the 11s When I worked at the tire shop we put some big tires on some very small rims and never had problems with them Hope this helps some

I know the 12.x will fit on the rims made for the 11.2 / 10-28.. not sure about those 13's... have to defer that ? to someone else.

good luck.. tires aint cheap.. I've had to do two rears between my 8n and NAA this year... looks like I got 1 front and another rear comming soon too...

Trust me,you won't like'em,thats what i have on the back of mine, they look kinda goofy, but the biggest problem is they kill your gear ratio, reverse on mine is scary fast. these N's aren't high horsepower machines, they depend on gearing to get'r done, take that away and it's not good. Pass on the tires, unless they are just a temporary thing to get ya by. my rims were shot and I got a good deal on these, rims and tires off of maybe a 600 or 800 series, don't know, but i hate'em!!
