I can purchase locally at a reasonable price original rear steel wheels as those that came with the "War Tractor" My question is: Can I mount them on 8N Wheel Centers? I was wanting to use them as an alternative to chains on tires to clear my gravel driveway of snow & ice. Would they fit, and is this a good idea? Thanks to any and all who reply! As always, all replys greatly appreciated!

Besides what everybody else said.. steel is going to wreak havoc on a gravel drive... will mess it up pretty good...

steel rims wont work on ice, as old already said, stick with chains, if you have a mig welder you can make a pair yourself, but if you dont want to wast time you probibly could got some at any tractor dealer.

Ones made from 1939-1942 had 32" wheel centers and will not work on 8N centers but after 1942 they used 28" centers and are interchangeable with the 8N centers, I think it would be ok in dry fluffy snow on the flat but not in wet snow, ice or on a hill.

Steel and snow don't mix well steel slides a lot on snow, even more then rubber, I found that out the hard way with a dozer a hill and snow. It was not fun as long as you keep going stright its ok but if you start slipping you can end up any where but where you want to be, and slideing sideways down hill on a dozer is not fun at all. Stay with the chains, if you check at state road dept. you can some times get used chains cheap. Hope this helps

Nope;

The center on the steel rims is made into the wheel itself, if i'm not mistaken, which means that it will only fit tractors with the large hub like the 2N or 9N. Sorry. Now you just have to get a 2N and a Zane Thang!
