I'm trying to learn how to post a picture so someone can tell me what kind of aux trans this is on this 1949 8n. If it works, does anyone recognize this kind of shifter?

I just looked at two 9Ns and both of them had the identical handle as the picture -- what was determined on make, model and function.

You have the same setup I have, and have been trying to get a shift handle for. The shaft is about 5/8" dia. with a keyway. YES? I thought it was a hupp but the handle to the shaft is wrong. Unless it is their step-up only model which I can't find pictures of. Is your shaft also threaded? Mine is in a 53 Jubilee. If you have a better pic of your shifter or acsess to another let me know. Mine is a jambonny. Would like to have original even if I have to have my machine shop duplicate. Would love to hear back on any F&T info.

Hupp or FT overdrive seems to be the consensus. The reason I ask is that I've been to John Smiths page numerous times but it didn't seem to fit any one category. It was either on the wrong side or the shifter didn't fit the description. (I had never seen the FT pictures before) I've used it sparingly because not sure of how to engage it. It moves up and down, very short travel either way. When brush hogging it seems to make the PTO spin faster, but I don't have the tractor here to tell you what position that is. In fourth gear with it engaged you can barely stay on the tractor, it really makes the tractor fly down the road. I have never used it in reverse. John seems convinced its an FT and I like his conviction. Looks kike it to, but some of you maintain its a hupp. Lets see if I can get this picture thing to work again and I'll give you one of the entire tractor unrelated to the aux trans. Thanks for the great responses.

Hi

You mention that PTO seems to turn faster
Bushhog were designed for 540 PTO RPM
if you put aux trans in high it will turn faster
and too fast. Centrifugal force will be greater
and might be "DANGEROUS"

Just my 2 cents worth

Good luck

Looks like a Hupp with a broken handle to me. Here is a Hupp 3 speed combintion. The handle has a ring and pin thru it and the 3rd gear is got by pulling out on the handle and down or up can't remember when I took this picture. I have had hupps that the steering arm had to be bent out some so you could shift it into the 3rd range. Mark H.

That would be the F&T overdrive. Click the link below to see the sales literature on it.

I blew up his picture and the handle does look like what you are showing. If not that handle is a jerry rigged one on a Hupp or home made not sure. Mark H.

It is not a reverser. It is a Hupp. BURT.

Hi

It looks like a Hupp transmission
if it is a Hupp it is a 3 speed
and shift pattern is as follows

If you are on the seat..
Down it normal gear ratio 1 to 1
center is neutral
up is high
neutral then push to right and up is low
