Stalls while bush hogging

Seems after reviewing previous postings, I am not alone.

My Jubilee will run perfect under any circumstance, EXCEPT while bush hogging. It runs for 5 minutes and then stalls out. Difficult to restart, backfires while starting.

Totally rebuilt, new coil, 12v system, plugs, wires, points, sediment bowl, carb rebuilt, everyting is new and has worked fine for over 1 year. This is however the first time I am using it for bush hog work. It mows fine, then simply quits.

What should I look for? Tractor purrs fine while at low idle through full speed on the road.

Thanks for the advice

Rick

i had the same thing happing to my n. i would mow for 100+ ft and she'd die hard to restart untill i started to polish the points, but that didnt fix her die'n. i ordered the electronic ignition and she was cured no more hard starting in the cold or rain was money well spent.

Rick, Cover what the others have said. When you load a tractor down with a hog they are working much harder than loafing down the road. Few questions. Is she backfiring, thru the induction system or afterfiring out the exhaust? How much rpm are you running when pulling the hog? If you are lugging the engine it will be much harder on the Jub than running against the governor. Mine works best between 1200--1800 rpm, depending what I am cutting. When the hog is cutting right the machinery sort of 'sings to you'. How big a hog are you running? A Jub will handle a six foot mower under most conditions but six foot is maxing it and overloading it in many conditions. What gear are you trying to hog in? Should be able to run in third if mowing pasture grass, if heavy stuff you may be down into first. Make sure the hog is set up right with the blade cutting plane level or the front slightly lower. Make sure the timing advance is right, the engine block is clean and the radiator is not full of chad. How about the power jet on the carb, remember they are to be field adjusted as load requires. HTH,
ray

Thanks for the detailed response.

It is backfiring through the exhaust, only when you try to restart it. Never backfires otherwise.

Hog is 1 year old, 5ft, runs smooth, no noise. Good level adjustment, mowing in 2nd gear at 1/2 to 2/3 throttle, as usual. Yes, it indeed "sings"

Nothing in the radiator, mowing 12" of light hay, certainly nothing like the 2" trees I took down with it last year with my 8n.

Other than that let me know what I may have missed. Thanks

Im thinking I would jumper around the ignition switch , if thats no help, go with a new set of points and condenser. Totally rebuilt ??? engine I would torque down head bolts , things run a lot hotter when mowing than just running down the road .
