OK guys, where does your 9N/2N or 8N have a habit of leaking oil? Where are those hair pulling leaks originating? What have you done to eliminate them?
My rebuilt 9N developed 3 leaks so far. 1-spitting small droplets of oil at the base of the oil filler tube. Fixed by removing tube, coating the end with RTV sealant and then reinstall the tube.
2-out the lever assembly on the governor. Fixed by replacing the seal
3- Drips at the base of the governor. Not solved but will remove and replace mounting gasket and this should do it.

Once the governor is back on I will take her for a spin and see what else develops.

Leak out the back wheels... Fix by new oil seals and brakes... Then after put back together noticed that while I had back end off... should of taken housing off to tighten bolt where the bottom of the 3 point hitch attached... Nice leak there... Now I get to spend part of winter tearing down again..... . Bummer!

My biggest leak was at the oil rings. Loose'n about 2 quarts an hour! Engine rebuild fixed that. Now it leaks at the front rope seal. I can live with that.

The other leaks:
PTO leaks - easy fix with new seal
Radiator - replaced with new. $125. Made in Ireland. Fits great!
Top of oil filter canister - forgot to tighten top cover after rebuild.
Right rear axle - drained ~2-3 quarts from the rear end to get it below the full mark (previous owners fault). Will need to replace the seals and brakes in spring.
Occasional drool from the operator when the grass is tall, the sun is just right, and the N is singing its song!

An old N is kinda like an old VW.If you get all the oil leaks stopped then it will not be original or normal anymore and no one would ever belive you..I had a VW Baha I tried to sell to a friend at work and he asked me if it threw out a little oil and I said no, not that I was aware of. He looked at me kinda funny and said most all of them threw or dripped oil.I found out that he had owned 3 of them before and I always thought that he thought I was lying to him lol..... ..R.M. Or like my Shovelhead. When it stops dripping oil, it's OUT of oil. Those oil spots are EXACTLY why these old beasts appeal to me. My Jubilee is pretty and "girlfriend friendly",my 8N is just as dependable, but my old 9N is still the only one with any nostalgia for me. The tractor shed even SMELLS like my Harley. Shiny side up.

Rick, I have the all too familiar leak at the two cotter keys at the bottom of my tractor. I thought a rebuild with new seals properly installed would solve that problem, but it hasn't. I was just out in the barn today studying the two pea size drops underneath the 8N and got to thinking - Old Henry was pretty smart, but I concluded, he didn't design his tractors with the purpose of providing drains for when they got old and the seals began to leak. No, I further concluded, he designed them so new seals when well lubricated would have a place to drain. I was satisfied with my thinking as I wiped up the spots, but haven't figured out Henry's reasoning on why the Jubilee doesn't drip a drop. Guess I should tear it apart so I can get some oil flow through the seals as well. (grin)

Have a nice holiday fellow.

Don't think he was doing any reasoning at the time.

Henry Ford Senior passed away in 1947 if i remember correctly. Obviously wasn't doing much on the Jubilee or NAA, but the 9N/2N was his baby.

Well, at the present, you could say mine are EVERYWHERE! (see thread below)

However, before I started the restoration, "Johnny" had bad leaks (assumption since the 1/4" of grease and dirt had sealed them up) around the right lower lift pin, front main seal, slight tranny input seal leak, PTO seal, and the steering sectors. Of course sometimes my nose leaked some too but that might not be tractor related.

We had some radiator leakage, but 2 bottles of Barrs Leaks (that I saw, anyway!) solved that!
