I was told to use the top hole for plowing only, with the small lever under the seat in draft control (down). Use the bottom hole for everything else. Using the top hole for bush hogging, etc could damage the draft control mechanism in the top cover if you snag a stump. I'm sure that others on this board with more knowledge of the N's hydraulics let you know if this advice is factual!

Bruce..... ...DON'T NEVER use the top hole of yer 3-holer toplink under yer buttbuckett for PLOWING. It'll pull the gutts of your hydraulics right out by their roots. The 3-holer toplink is a form of mechanical amplification to the hydraulic cylinder for faster response to light loads of weeding shovels and sweeps. Only organic farmers use mechanical weeding now days, all others use chemical weed sprays. PLOWING IS HEAVY WORK and doesn't need help with the hydraulic response time.

Most guys put a 3/4" bolt thru the top hole so the un-informed don't do damage to the tractor hydraulics$$$$. Others actually hacksaw the top hole off. Me? I store a spare 3-point toplink pin there..... ...Dell

I use the 2nd hole (middle) to plow. Is that acceptable?

Use the bottom hole almost exclusively. The higher holes were for increased sensitivity in draft control. Look thru the archives to find opinions that this puts too much stress on the draft control mechanism.
