8n point gap problem

I have renewed the points on two front distributor 8n's with new holland parts. I could not set either gaps greater than .010". The first set I cleaned up the old set of points and re-used. The second set was shot so I had to bend the stationary tang appreciably to acheive .025" gap. They will not last long. Since they are are not parallel, they are making contact on a very small area of the points. I tried to file out the holes but ran out of room before I reached .025". Any ideas?

They must have ran out of ones made in Mexico which are good and this summer substituted ones made in China which do not open enough, see if the dealer has some on the shelf that are made in Mexico.

Phil..... ...the points gap of the 4-nipple frontmount distributor is 0.015", NOT 0.025" of the 5-nipple sidemount distributor..... ...Dell

More than likely, the rubbing block is worn so the lobes do not open or close the points enough. You do know that the "pin" in the middle of the plate turns and is off center for the explicit purpose of adjusting the points gap, right? Just making sure. If the rubbing block is worn, you will need a new centrifugal weight advance assembly, as I don't think the shaft and block are available separately. It'll be a little pricey, but worth it for a like new distributor.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Jeb
