Hey Gang-
I got to use my latest toy over the weekend to switch from my original "show" rims to my Rim Guard loaded 6-loop style newer rims with older tires for the winter plowing season. The genius of the simple design of the Dearborn Tractor Jack is amazing.

I finally got my dad's original self-levitating jack out of the barn last week (after thinking about it for ten years) and couldn't believe how well it worked. I didn't fiddle with the front portion though. I saw a chain dangling down in your picture, are you using some sort of check chain arrangement to keep the lift up?

No check cjain, however I highly reccomend it. It took a few tries to get the front to work as you can see I was on a concrete floor and once again the amzing thing was more than likely designed to work on hard ground better. You need to do as the instructions say and get all the slack out of the chain. As I lifted the tractor, the front brace wanted to push along the cement floor until it fell over, but with a little patience I got it to work. If you look close in the picture you can see the front part lying on the floor under the tractor. I only had the back up in the photo. The chains are for my linch pins or the lift arms. I restored the whole tractor this past summer.

So timely that you post the picture. I just picked up the same jack at auction. Looks about the same condition, I got it for $35.00. I wasn't going to pay any more, luckily the other guys gave up sooner than I.

Hi Ploughman. Your Rim Guard, is that the tire fill liquid that ive heard about? I would like to know more about it and where you bought it. Is that the cal. clor. replacement stuff made from sugarbeets? Looks like a fine tractor but that jack is really more than I can stand, I'm jealous.... Jerry

Hi Jerry-
Yes, the "beet juice" is the Ca Cl replacemant stuff. My local Firestone dealer put it in when I got the new rims. You'll need to get new tubes also as they can't mix the old stuff with the new. I've posted on Rim Guard before, try an archive search. I'm not a salesman I just know a good product when I see it. Also, try your local tractor yard for the stuff as they use it aLL the time now. If you shoot me a personal email I'll tell you where I got mine and try to help you locate a dealer near you.

I am SOOOO jealous...you have an original jack, worklight, AND a TAURUS taillight. I'll trade you the taurus for a Duolamp from Carpenter....I need a Taurus BAD for my 2N. But I agree, there's a whole lot about these tractors where simplicity and function are nearly unbeleivable compared to todays computerized, fuel injected, GPS co-ordinated world.

Hi Jeb-
I have three other TAURUS tail lights if you are interested. See my original post for my email address. I learn more about the N's every time I work on my 8N. For instance, the tools were designed, specifically the two open end wrenches, short and thin, to get into the tight places around the tractor. I had to use my 01A-17016 9/16 X 5/8 to remove the tail light for some repair work and I could not get my Craftsman open end to get on the nut correctly so I used my original Ford wrench and voila! Same goes for the 9N17014 Plow Wrench. So many uses for it on the tractor. Gets into places where modern tools fail.

careful with those thin (practically flat) open end wrenches you are referring to.....those were, I believe, specifically designed for adjusting the tappets or lifters or sumptin like that! All I remember was whenever I wanted to use one of them and daddy found out.....he pert near had a heart attack!!! He finally removed them from his tool box, wrapped them up in an oil cloth, and hid them from us kids!!! hehehe.....dads!! I swear....heaven help me if we ever need those wrenches again!!!
