I am new to this and do not know if I have a 2N or a 9N. How can I tell the diiference and where do I find a serial number. I have purchased the Ford owners manual but this doesnt really help. Thanks.

Ron, there is very little difference between a 9n and a 2n. The serial number is located on the left side of the motor between the starter and the oil filter. However if the motor has ever been changed it will not give you the correct year of your tractor. should be a diamond followed by 9n **** and numbers with another diamond. Should also be a casting date under the tractor by one of the drian plugs. Then you could look in the archives for differences. Good Luck John

John, FYI, There were no 9/2N's with a diamond in the serial number. They all have stars before and after. Diamonds weren't used until the late 8N's.

check the right side of this page and click on serial numbers under research & info. The number is located on your engine block on the left side. Also if you have a 9n or a 2n both the serial numbers start with 9n.
