Hello all again,
Well I read all of your messages from a previous post I submitted and my tractor still will not start, please recall that I have rebuilt the carburator, made all the checks that everyone has recommended and still no go! I get plenty of gas from the tank into the float bowl. I still can get it to run using ether, but appears that it will not pull gas from the bowl into the cylinders. I'll bet I have checked everything 10 times??? I did also want to mention that when I first opened up the carburator, I did not first remove the high speed adjustment knob, and ended up bending it. I think I have it straight now. I also have one of those plastic Venturi's on this carburator.
Someone in the previous post mentioned that I may have a vacuum problem, but when I take the air cleaner off and put the palm of my hand over the end of the carburator, it sure pulls hard! How can you tell if the passage between the high speed needle and upthrough the entire jet is clogged?. I do know that the long jet with the 3 holes drilled into the side of it are all clear and the main jet under it is clean as well, but there is some passages in there that you just can't see. I have let this carb sit in Carb cleaner for 24 Hours and also blow it out with air before I install it.
Anyone have anymore ideas for me to try? I am really confused at this point.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can lend.
Rick

Hi Guys,
This thing still will not run, but somehow, I think that Bob might be onto something, he says that the high speed needle has a rubber end on it, is this correct? Mine does not, and I think that I will get a guitar string and try to fish it out if it is blocked in there. I honestly beleive because it will start so quickly on ether that something is still plugged up inside the carb, as when I open the bleed screw at the bottom of the carb lots of gas comes out and continues to come out, however the thing still does not pull fuel into the cylinders. I am still stumped.
Any other ideas's?
Thanks,
Rick

rick! I had problems with what i thought was my carb after I re-built it. I ended up with two problems.

1. one with the needle valve in the bowl assembly. I found the needle valve has a rubber washer insert after you unscrew the nut and unscrew the valve all the way out I found a piece of this rubber was clogged in the needle valve.

2. I found that everytime I took the bowl off and emptied when I replaced it the bowl would fill but the fuel line wouldnt. It was airlocked.
I have a piece of fuel hose at the carb end and I disconnected it so could see when and if the fuel started to flow. I ended up opening the other fuel port screw on the opposite side of the fuel line at the bowl until fuel started seeping out around the screw. This also started the fuel running to the carb.I think the combination of the fuel bowl screw and the line being off at the carb released the airlock.I do this as a matter of course now when ever I have the carb off or the fuel line/fuel bowl apart. and it seems to work for me.

hope this helps
regards bob

Have you tried running without the air cleaner. If it will run like that, you need to clean the filter. Mine was clogged from years of dust.

Aside from a rebuilt carb to isolate the problem there are a couple things. If your float needle is not properly seating you could be flooding the carb. Your screens and inlet elbow strainer are clear yes? A weak spark or electrical system could be a problem also, try removing a plug and seeing if you have a nice fat spark that jumps at least 3/8" to the head. Guitar strings do a wonderful job of cleaning the hidden passages in the carb.

Turn off the gas and let it sit for an hour or so.

Then give the air cleaner a big dose of starting fluid. Try starting it now. If it won't do anything or at least try to start you have ignition problems and not necessarily fuel problems. First get the fire then worry about the fuel and air.

Rick,

>>>>I also have one of those plastic Venturi's on this carburator>>>

I would make sure that the Venturi is not upside down...

All your passages are probably clear from the soaking and compressed air, but you might try snaking some 20 or 30 pound mono filiment thru them just as another check.
