No need to disconnect the cables to charge the batery on a 9N/2N or for any other battery except for later automobiles etc that are all electronic and computerized. Then you better disconnect the battery cables or you may end up in big trouble.

As long as the polarity is correct and the voltage is correct.

Make sure your charger a 6 volt switch too. Read owners manual, because 12 volts can boil a 6 volt dry in a heart beat.
Also if you ever hook up a 12 volt system to a 6 volt system, for jumping, make sure of two things. Polarity wrong can blow a battery in your face and two don't leave switch on the 6 volt for long without cranking can explode coil. Have seen both happen first hand.

JMHO....From what I've heard its never a good idea to connect a 12v battery to a 6v battery. Better instructions for jumping 12v to 6v are in the archives.
FWIW.....don t. .....

Positive is positive.. negative is negative.. always hook up your charger by matching battery and cable polarities.. other wise you will get good sparks. Polarity of ground on that tractor charging system is only a realative issue. ( realative to the tractor ).

If your battery cutout works. no reason to disconnect your cables. If it doesn't.. replace it.. it is less than 20 bucks..
