I was wondering about the casting code that is above the engine number. On mine the engine number is 8N-C. The casting code is MC-1.

If I'm not mistaken, that just refers to the generator scheme. The casting code should be a letter (for the month, alphabetically) followed by three numbers. The first two numbers are the day of the month and the last number is the last number of the year it was cast. My 2N has the code L276 for November 27 1946, although my serial number lists the tractor as a 1947 mid year. Casting codes are just close guesses to help narrow down tractor year. Serial number is the only definative source.
