2N Steel Wheels - What are they good for?

As an advid antique tractor lover I have grown to appreciate why many early tractor owners not living in rural areas curse the iron wheels. Ruined driveways, garage floors and trailer decks. To that end I've kept my 2N steel wheels off of my N. What are they worth and who wants them?

Small world. I live in n. central florida. I'm going to try to make the flywheelers show in jan.. but don't know my work sched. yet. However, I am going to the Antique engine & Tractor show in Starke Saturday morning.

Not sure what kind of iron wheels you have, but have you considered making them concrete / asphalt friendly.

I've seen people with the bar style ridges tack weld a cylinder made of something like 3" or 4" wide flat stock ( 5/16" ? thick ) around the circomcerence of the wheel.. then adding rubber tread.. like from a conveyor belt, etc.. to it.. have seen many tractors on iron in parades this way.

Also, if your iron is on knobbies.. the removable kind.. there is a company that makes rubber and polyurethane replacement knobbies that you switch out for parades.. etc. The rubber are fine for the road but may mark concrete.. the polyurethane ones won't mark.. but are more expensive.. etc.

If you go to the show in stark, look for a 5'6 guy wif long hair and a beard.. I'll be wearing a tractor hat ( go figure! ) and my YTMAG button on it.

I saw Don-tallahassee there last year..

What size centers does it take. I doubt my 8n or NAA will fit them.. otherwise a set of iron would be nice.

Good luck.

Jeb2N,
Actually they will fit an 8N using your centers. I won't know about Starke 'till the morning. If I do make I'll look you up. RL

The 2N steel only fits the 2N or 9N I think. The centers are the same as the 2N centers, which are obviously different from the 8N centers. If I got steel wheels for my 2N, i'd want a full set. I always thought it goofy looking to have steel rears and rubber fronts. Same thing with styled JD's and steel wheels. Ever see the steeled Olivers? just don't look right. Even though the N was "styled", it still looks good in steel.

This sounds kinda strange but I heard a certin order of Amish will use a tractor with steel wheels, no rubber tires allowed . ( beats me ? ) .

I have the rear steel and to my knowledge the pair have not been used. One was once used shortly in place of a flat tire. They come with the 9N/2N center ring. I live in Central FL and plan to attend the Flordia Flywheelers show and swap meet at Ft Meade in mid January to unload some N and Fordson pieces. I'd like to get a few estimates on what they are worth before I state something that appears too outrageous.

They are the perfect solution for brush hogging thorn trees. It's hard to get a flat on an iron wheel.

RL: Add me to the list of how much and where are they? I have no means of estimating their worth, but would consider the purchase!

Hey Guys thanks for the interest and comments,
After asking around, It's been determined that for the pair of rear 2N steel with center rings a price of $400.00 is very fair. I live in Central Florida if anyone is interested. Thanks again. RL
