Phil..... ...BEFORE you can "drop yer pump", 1) ya gotta drain 5 gals of hydro-tranny oil. Start with yer square diffy plug first, then your 3" tranny plug, then finally yer 3" hydro plug. 2) ya gotta disconnect your hydraulic control lever (reach inside thru your 6" round dipstick access plate) and 3) then ya gotta pull yer PTO shaft.

But if'n yer just thinkin' about cleaning out your pump of sludge, 1) drain the 5 gals of hydro-tranny oil. 2) look inside thru the 6" round dipstick plate. 3) if'n it looks sludgy, think about the merits of pressure washing with a $10 garden spray pressure pump and some diesel fuel and lettitt drain out the pump drain instead of droppin' the pump..... ....Dell

Just messin around..

That aluminum plate is the base of the hydraulic pump. They are one in the same. When you hear of people reffering to "dropping the pump" they are referring to removing that plate and the pump that is attached to it. There is no way to remove the pump from it. If you want to clean out the inside of the tractor, most people would remove the rear trumpets and diffy, and also possibly the transmission cover and rinse with Diesel or Kerosene.
