I have a little Ford red & gray tractor. I am having trouble finding all the numbers to identify it. We have found several numbers on the engine block but they don't make much sense. We did find these numbers under the hydrolics -- 9N 605 A2 ... Can someone help me with identifing my tractor? Thanks

Bob..... ....in the N-Ford scheme of part numbers, 9N-600 is the basic 9N hydraulic pump assy. 8N-600-A2 is the basic 8N hydraulic pump assy, and 8N-604-A2 is the aluminum version of the basic 8N hydraulic pump assy and is interchangeable with 8N-604-B castiron version. You do know how to tell the difference between castiron and aluminum don't you? Magnets don't stick to aluminum.

Unfortunately, my N-Ford Master Parts Catalog doesn't list your quoted 9N-605-A2 as a part. Numbers can get scratched and hard to read, you might want to re-check your number for accuracy.

The engine s/n is handstamped on a flat space on the side of the block aft of the oil filter and above the starter and just below the cylinderhead. All 9N & 2N engines s/n start with 9N, all 8N engines s/n start with 8N. But don't forget, the N-Engines are tractor interchangeable.

Heres a basic hint: 2N's & 9N's have a 3-speed tranny and 8N's have a 4-speed tranny with side-by-side brake pedals. Paint color isn't a sure clue..... ....Dell
