Spray the cap inside and out, and plug wires with WD40. It helps with the moisture. They probably make some moisture spray available at auto stores but this what I always used with points system

Moisture in the distributer would be my guess , sparks fly all over the place when water gets in there , dry it out . I also add a bit of dry gas to the gas tank this time of year . Parts stores sell a spray on plastic that helps keep the water out.

My 9N started dying on me. Started fine and had been running fine. New points, condensor, coil, carb. rebuilt, the only thing different was wet weather. I put in some "heat" and is running fine again. Mine wasn't backfiring however. Had to leave the choke out, acted like it was starved for fuel. High throttle it would miss with the choke out. Push it in and it would die. Heet solved my problem.

Rick. You just may have coil or point problem. Often when the electrical problems start, adjusting the carb richer temporarly solves the problem. I'm only experienced with the front mount distributors and coils. If front mount take it off check and maybe replace the points and condenser with new ones. If this doesn't solve your problem and but it starts and is not backfiring any more, could be the coil. When they start going out, they will work well until they get hot, then fail. Let them cool and tractor will start right up and run until the coil is hot. Like many in this forum state, 90% of carb problems end up being distributor or electrical problems. Good luck. Ron

You are haveing fuel problems firstcheck to see if you get a good flow out the bottom of the carb by pulling out the drain plug if you do then the problem is probably inthe main jet area of the carb and it will need to be rebuilt
