turf tires???

I was wondering if anyone could help me make my decision to put turf tires on my 1950 8n. I have decided to go with Titan's R3 in a 12.4 x 28 size which I plan to mount on my original rims (9.00x28 Kelsey Hayes).

If I put those on the rear, what should I mount on the original front wheels that will give me the correct ride height?

Are there any other turf tires that I should look at?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Rick, I put turfs on my 8N and it worked out great. I wanted to keep the 19" wheels on the front so I used motorcyle tires. If you have 16's on the front then I would use multi rib implement tires.

I just mounted those Titan R-3's on my '52 8N. I got new 11x28 rims to go with them (also made by Titan). I was told the 12.4's will hardly fit the 9 inch width of your rim and also cause the tire to balloon. I kept the bar ags on their old rims, pumped out the CaCl and put 'em in the barn.

For fronts I used the 6.00-16 King Harvest implement multi-ribs. I used 6.00 instead of 6.50 to decrease liklihood of clearance and fit problems. My chains are Roadmasters made by LaClede Chain (StLouis) @ $220 a pair. The tractor is dead level with this set-up.

There was someone awhile back that used dirt bike tires on the front. I don't recall if height was an issue, claimed it didn't tear up the yard as bad.
FWIW...don t. ...

RickA: I did exactly that two years ago on my '51 8N and am very pleased with the results! There is not alot to choose from, so I went with the Titan 12.4s. I have since learned that Denman also makes a similiar tire also in 12.4x28. As far as the front goes, since you are using an oversize rear, you will want a larger front to keep from driving downhill. I chose Titan five rib implement tires in 6.50x16. The profile of my hood is virtually level! The 6.50s just clear the spindles without a problem and the implement tread design is very user friendly to my lawn! I couldn't be more pleased with my choices and strongly suggest you do likewise! Hope this helps,
Arthur
