Just sold my '51 Farmall Super A, got religion and bought a '39 Ford 9N -- 12 years older but lightyears ahead by me! What manuals (Ford and aftermarket) do you Ford wizards recommend (service manual and parts name/number)?

I'll have to look, but is there the same debate as there was with the Farmall about modern fluid equivalents for the spec'd fluid for the gearbox/PTO and hydraulics? What's recommended?

Thanks!!
Reid

Thanks, guys, you're gods. Exactly the kind of advice I was hoping for. And you bet I'll be checking the archives. Fingers crossed.

The archives are chock full of good info.
Might want to get a Master part catalog. Good/very good exploded parts pix.
Sometimes WalMart has the GL-1 oil. Much thicker than the 134D.

Good luck...hth...don t. ...

Reid..... ....welcome to the N-World. Ol'Henry and Harry musta done something right 'cuz after the patents ran out, all the tractor world converted to the Ferguson 3-point implement scheme.

Ford/New Holland now recommend spec: M2C-134D hydro-tranny oil. 1-fillem-up by the tranny shifter, 3-drains. Drain the square diffy plug first 'cuz it pees innna big bucket with some accuracy. Then drain the 3" tranny plug, then drain the 3" hydraulic pump. Fill with 5 gal's (less 1 qt, you don't want to OVERFILL 'cuz it'll leak out your axle trumpets seals and slickem-up yer brakes, not good). Tip: get a 5 gal bucket nozzle hose adaptor, don't mucka round with funnel (they allways fall out fer me) 'Course you can use the 1939 spec: 90wt mineral gear oil, if'n you can find it. GL-1 is close. Don't use modern 80-90wt oil 'cuz its got additives unfriendly to pump and tranny.

Suggest you seriously consider the merits of your very own personal copy of the I&T FO-4 manual. Available at sponsors of this fine N-Board, most agricultureal emporiums. Amazon.com, www.n-news.com also has great archive of implement manuals too. My local (byte my tongue) John Deere dealers parts counter sells it. Why even Ford/New Holland sell it, isn't that amazing? ($27 cheap), getcha one.

And don't be afraid to eather brouse the archives at the top of this great N-Board or ask questions for clarification..... ....respectfully, Dell
