I've been hanging around this site for the past three years and have noticed something very interesting... We think these are the best little tractors ever invented and yet whenever someone asks the value of them we tend to revert to the position that "they are not worth that much, lets see how cheap we can keep them."
Well, I for one, believe that they are a true "American Classic" and deserve to be respected as such and if the price reflects this then so be it.

Everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I agree with you that these little Fords are truly an American classic. As I see it part of the reason that they are an American classic is because they're affordable. A guy that needs a small tractor to maintain some property can afford one and afford to buy the parts to fix it when he needs to. If these little work horses cost $8,000 and required another $5,000 investment to put into working condition I betcha there wouldn't be many American Classic 8Ns around any more. They'd have gone to the scrap heap be melted down to build new Kubotas.
Just my opinion and you know what they say...just like *ssholes, everybody has one !!
Later, Lee

I do not think anybody can argue the incredible value (cost vs. use) of the n-series fords. Here in the countryside of connecticut a good running n will run you 2-3 thousand. Try to find ANYTHING in this price range that boasts a three point hitch and you will be searching for a very long time. This being said I imagine the price of our n's will continue the steady climb in the coming years as well as a steady interest and usage of these wonderful tractors. Anybody know where I can get an orange kubota matchbox for my cyclone? Njoy the day
Peter

With anything the age of the N series, you have to take into account what it will cost you to restore it. If a perfect N, (or classic car for that matter) sells for $5,000, then you have to figure what a rusted, dented, and abused one would cost to make it as good as the perfect one. Often times the restoration cost is far more than the restored unit is worth. Therefore we have nothing but a parts tractor or vehicle. The exception would be the person that is using an old tractor on a regular basis to plow, or mow, or whatever. That person could still be using the rusted, dented, and abused tractor and it fills his need perfectly, (that would be me) would not sell it because of what it would cost to replace.

Value depends on the situation of the end user.

Hi PJ,

I paid $1000 for my 49 8N in 1977 to use on my newly acquired plot of land. For the most part, I was able to do most of the chores I needed to do with it and enjoyed using it as well. I still have it and spent about $1500 on a restoration and engine rebuild a couple of years ago. I still like it a lot and use it occasionally but I would not pay $6000 for another one in perfect condition.

However, as someone else mentioned, if I were to come across another N that needed restoring for, lets say $1000 - $1500, I might buy it. If I had $6000 to spend on another tractor it would not be an N series. My .02 and Merry Christmas. Rick H. Ga.

I know what your saying. But. When someone asks you the value of a N series then explains the condition of the tractor we give our opinions as to the worth. If someone has a tractor that is rotting in a field and has not run in 10 yrs. what are we supposed to say its an "American Classic" offer $16,000? No, we take the info given us and try and give a honest value to that specific N. And besides there only worth what someone is willing to pay or take for it. We all are looking for that good deal, and hate to see another get taken to the cleaners for paying to much.
