Time To Fix my Jubilee, Finally

Finally got my Jubilee (no. 57239) back after taking it to a neighbor who said he would fix it. A year and a half and fifty some calls later, I finally got it back. Not one bolt turned. I was just lucky to get it back. I really think he thought I would tire and let him have it.

I loaded it on a 12 foot trailer. It has duel wheels and elec brakes. Tied it down with heavy chains, front and back. Took a thirty foot chain and wrapped it around the trannie and anchored it to the sides. Attached four run of the mill tie downs. Put 4X4's in front and back of all the tires and nailed them down. Drove the twenty miles without any problems. Oh! did I mention? I towed it with my 96 GMC Sunoma. I'm sure I'll hear about that. No big hills and I watched out for the traffic.

I'm going to buy a 12 X 20 foot tent and do my repairs under canvas. I'm going to trench in 3- 4X4 eight foot timbers under the rear and the front wheels for jack stand stability.

I've been searching the archives for info, but I know I'll be on here a lot asking questions and what to do next. I've got cal clor in the tires so I think, while the tractor is still on the trailer, I'll make a trip to the local car wash and clean it up a bit. There doesn't appear to be any oil leaks. The tractor hasn't run in 8 or 10 years and has only been under roof to get repaired. Other than that it has never had so much a tarp on it. A lotta surface rust but that's all.

More later

I would spend a little more and get a 18x20 metal carport 595.00 installed. ya can't beat the price. In time you can close it in and pour a concrete slab. That would make wife a good xmas present. As for your towing setup I bet it was slow going uphill but fast going down hill LOL.
Lots of luck with ya tractor. Have found some good old boys from NC to be lots of help.

Hobo,NC,
Hello, I never tire of the humor all you fella's have. On the metal carport that sounds like a excellent idea. Have you done it? Any details would be nice to hear. Thank You.

590.00 is the price they use to hang ya with. you can get a good carport for that price but when you go to close the sides and ends in thats were they get ya. figure about 3000.00 to close in the sides and ends with doors. Fer as I know about all that sell them offer this. I sell'em and have had two to go all the way and close them in. One got the carport and had it closed in a year later. Makes a good building when its done for the money. Even if ya move they are not hard to take down and sell. Takes installers about one hour to put up.

Thanks to all for the replies. It can't be said enough on this forum, that this is a wonderful site. I doubt that I would even attempt to repair my tractor without the first class advice that is available here. I will be posting pictures as soon as I reconfigure my computer, again, to handle downloading from my Kodak canera,

At the risk of being politically incorrect, I want to wish everyone a very, Merry Christmas.

Say, what are you folks getting your significant other for Christmas? I'm thinking about getting a floor jack for my wife. She is used to my sense of humor. Only as a fun gift, though. har, har.

best regards, oslo in nc

It isn't that your towing vehicle lacked power ( though it might have under that load..) it was the brakes issue.. which it looks like you had handled adequately.. with a trailer with e-brakes.

I used to have a 99 ranger.. small 3.0 v6... and i towed a 2 horse bumper pull trailer with e-brakes. It didn't like hills with the ac on.. but it did it...I traded for a 'real' truck a tthe earliest opportunity though.. ( dodge ram .. twice the engine)

souNdguy;

I too had 3 horse trailer w. tack room and living quarters. It was made of heavy steel. When I put one quarter horse and nothing else on, I was overloaded. I hauled it with a Chevy, crewcab, 454 ci. Hauled it like a dream. 9 mpg empty, 7 mpg loaded. I had a 150 gal capacity, which I needed. I have many fond memories going to those horse shows. Very political in their judging.

thanks for the reply, oslo

I know what you mean.. here where I live.. it seems the judges take into consideration what you have parked in the parking lot as to how well your horse does on points.. etc... go figure...
