Forgive my ignorance, and correct my terminology!: - My 9N lacks the flat bar on the right side (stabilizer bar?) I'd guess helps side-to-side sway. Any dimensions so I can make one? Any risk in not having one (mostly I disk weeds so far)? Are there supposed to be two bars? - One of the two holes the check chains connect to on the PTO cover are ripped out (probably related to #1). Grind and weld it up with a piece of flat stock? - Do I need an overrunning clutch to run a mower on the back? - Is a 9N geared low enough to run a tiller off the PTO?
Thanks!!

I made mine from steel scrap not a problem. One bar works but two is better. Repairing your check chain mount shouldn't be a problem. Get the ORC or risk running into things cuz the mower pushed you. There is ongoing debate on the tiller issue, check the discussions of this subject in the archives. The answer seems to be maybe.

Reid Fisher. I lost one last summer, so now have an extra stablilizer bar. If your near by, I would be most happy to give it to you. Shipping would probably cost more than it is worth. A new set is about $15. Good luck and Happy Holidays. Ron

Thanks Ron, but I'm in California near Gilroy (garlic capital of the world). I'll check with our Ford/New Holland folks and if the gouge rate is too exhorbitant, I'll be back with you.

Thanks guys for the suggestions and dimensions for DOY stabilizer bars!

Reid Fisher. I bought the last set for somewhere between $15-$20 including the brackets. You mentioned Garlic Cap. of the Country. About 10 years ago the wife and I took a long weekend and flew out to SanFran. and one of the places we took in was a Garlic Resturant. It just opened and was suggested to us as a place to take in. They even had garlic ice cream and I have to say it was good. They had strings of garlic strung all over the place. Everything was garlic and it was all good, including the atmosphere. Safe Tractoring and Happy Holidays. Ron

Reid, You can buy a stabilizer kit and check chains at your Ford/New Holland dealer or one of the fine distributers listed here at this site. Next if you want to run a mower, use an over running clutch so the mower won't shove you into something or break your pto Lastly I don't have a tiller, but by most accounts the N series gears are not low enough, unless a post transmission auxilary trans called a howard rotavator is installed. Theese are both rare and fragile so probably not a good choice.

You can buy those bars at a tractor dealer or a farm supply place, and yes you should have an over running clutch to run a mower. 2 bars by the way one on each side
