I am having a lot of difficulty in gapping my new ignition points wide enough on my 9N. No matter what I do, which I may not be doing the right things, I can on get about half of the required gap. What am I doing wrong? Can the eccentric screw be worn out? Can something else be worn out? Can I have a set a points that weren't manufactured correctly? Any advice that you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you are trying to set the points to the correct gap for the distributor you have, and can't quite get the gap right, whip out the Dremel tool, and do a slight re-work of the slot where the eccentric screw goes. (Providing, of course, that that shape of the point set otherwise matches the originals.)

You need points made in US or Mexico, because China and other countries must not have been able to convert the measurements correctly so they open.

9N; I would go with the wrong points in the right
box theory. The new help today may mean well but somedays they just can't get that job done right.
Get the point(s), the right ones that is.
Our 9N is 50 years old and still runs very well
after the second engine overhaul and several 6V
new batteries of course. We had about 9 various
implements which made it a hardworking family member.

maybe you are trying to set the gap in the "points closed" position?? Set the gap when the follower is on the top of the lobe-points open position. Just a "mabye"

Bob G.TX. Hope this helps. 3 weeks ago I had the indentical problem. I was installing new points and condenser purchased from TSC in Wi. and they wouldn't adjust properly. Even the condenser was longer than what I was replacing, but it fit. Turns out they were the wrong ones, but in the correct containers. Cleaned up the old ones and put them back in. Tractor run very good. Get your self a new set of everything. However, it could be other problems, such as the bushings in the distributor worn out. Good Luck & Happy New Year. Ron
