I've noticed from time to time up appears someone that is overdosed on their "grip" pills. My take on this is they only recieve any enjoyment out of life only when they post negative input that is invaluable to everyone. These individuals would get no enjoyment out of life if they were ignored. My $.02 is not to waste space on this "great" site and just ignore them.If this is done they WILL fade away.Have a great NEW YEAR everyone!

If you did get an email, copy add paste it to a thread so we can all see it. If you don't show us..... well,I think that says it all. I don't put my email on the line because of the worms that used to go around had have tractor form members names(not their fault). Maybe that's what you got.

I have a Zane Thang, purchase less than 2 years ago. AND IT IS NOT WHAT IS PICTURED IN THE POST BELOW. Are the pic's below of a Zane Thang or not?!? My Zane Thang is about 2 feet long with nylon blocks on it and is not nearly as neat and clean looking as the product below. I am now curious as to just what was sent to me. In all fairness, my Thang works as represented. However it is rather stiff to adjust. I am happy with the function of it. But the appearance is another story.

No Johnny..... ...The pictures attached to this post are NOT a picture of the real "Zane Thang". They are from Rick and are a copy of a position control device by Phil printed in the N-NewsLetter fall qtr 2003. Phil didn't like the looks of his "Zane Thang", so he re-designed it too. Rick is so proud of his copy, he posted it to this BBS, inviting everyone to copy his copy as a benevolent service to ALL N-Tractor owners. Most "Zane Thang" owners still abide by their original gentlemans agreement, and DON'T post pictures of their "thang"..... ...respectfully, Dell

It's human nature to dislike someone else when they are successful. They big difference with folks is the way that they can deal with the issues and keep things on an even keel.

I can't understand why this keeps coming up here with such strong dislike to Zane and his Thang. I have a 2N and don't have a device but have planned on getting one this year. I've always wondered what it looked like because of my experience in fabrication and machining, I thought I could make one too. Since I have now seen it, I'm convinced that it's not worth the time to try and copy. For the money, the Thang is a better buy than I would care to try and make one for.

I have had Zane help me in the past and he has never solicited a sale. I've grown to respect him and appreciate the wisdom that he and some of the other elders share here. I try to respect all and hope that they treat me the same way. Everyone here has a bit of knowlege that can help someone else. This is all about sharing and respect.

In the words of Rodney King: "can't we all get along?"

Please let us see this offending 'SPAM' that has upset you so...Complete with headers of course...Some of us might actually be able to follow it back a ways without getting all upset and irrational...

I found it in Oct 97 and have been a contributor since, attempting to help those whom are mechanically and electrically challenged. And I have always posted my E-mail address and have NEVER ONCE received any E-mails from Zane advertizing his "THANG". But I sure get lots of credit card this, mortgage that, viagra and hot-babes 'uther. I think your rant is outta line..... ...respectfully, Dell

I don't post much on this board even though I
visit here at least once a day. I feel compelled to register my disgust over this little flap.
I seriously doubt that Zane is soliciting his device using our email addresses, and even if he is does it deserve such a vile mean spirited
response? I told my usually disinterested wife
and she said. "I bet it came from a young person". Seems like nothing good can survive without someone wanting to kill it. I do not have
this device(don't needit) but I have a lot of respect for Zane just because of his reputation on this board.

The linkage is worn or bent inside the lift.

Moving the quadrant may give you more up but not likely to fix the underlying problem.

I make and sell a jig and booklet along with a new cam follower pin that you can use to get the adjustment right the first time. The jig gives you a place to aim for the control rod to adjust to. Measuring springs etc just won't get it on a badly work linkage. If it were new then it would but we all know nothing in new on these tractors. Wear in every joint.

See the link below for more information if interested.

Steve..... ...I think you're out of line with your crass and crude post. Please re-think your position.

Zane came up with a helpful adjunct to the needs of 9N and 2N hydraulic 3-point users. Realizing as simple as his inovative device is, he asked for a simple gentlemans agreement from those who recognized the simple brillance of his device, to refrain from duplicating it or displaying it in photos.

This is essentually the same thing that Harry Ferguson asked from Henry Ford, "shake on it". Henry Ford was wise enough to understand the brillance of Harrys 3-point hitch scheme and the two gentlemen shook hands on it, and kept the lawyers and bookkeepers out of it. You would be well advised to do the same..... ...respectfully, Dell

Dell I would have to respectfully disagree with your post and here is why.
While I would agree with the gentlemen agreement not to show pictures of the Zane Thang; It was Rick that posted the pictures and not Steve so your comments should have been directed at Rick.
If some one was to ask about a problem of not having position control on their tractor and Zane posted a link to his web site that would be O.K. But while Steve's words were harsh and maybe uncalled for from reading Steve's post it looks as if Zane got his email address and sent him a unsolicited email trying to sell him a Zane Thang and that is wrong.

Anyone who’s time is worth anything at all to them when they look at the Zane thing will realize that by the time they were to round up the parts and make it themselves that they would had come out better just spending the $80 bucks. (CHEAP)

I have an 8N so I do not need the Zane Thang, but as a short time browser of these pages I understood there was a gentleman's agreement to NOT display the Zane Thang out of RESPECT for the man who came up with the design and who has offered much help and information about these old tractors. As I understand Zane was not really making a profit from his device but providing something useful to those who wanted one. I suspect you think you are helping folks out by giving out the plans but instead all I see a lack of integrity on your part. Sadly the same I see in most people these days.

Zane did not come up with the idea. As often happens, the idea may have been original to him, but he was NOT the original inventor.

I remember some 25 years ago a coworker and I came up with a great idea that saved the company lots of money, in fact the company (Ford) gave us new cars for the idea. Our idea was original to us, we thought of it with no help and had never seen one before. When the patent lawyers looked it over and did a patent search, lo and behold someone had invented and patented the exact same thing in the 1920's.

True, Zane offers help and information as do many others. Profit, only Zane knows for sure. And I am helping those out who would like to consider the possibility of making their own.

Hey you don't have the f,

How about posting a copy of the citation Ford gave you along with the new car.

Let's see, they gave the guy that named the T-bird for them a new suit. . . and they gave you and your buddy cars BEFORE they checked for a patent? Sure they did, just it doesn't strike me as being exactly what happened.

Maybe a photo, they always take them when they hand out the free cars, yep, the photo and a copy of the citation you got for your great idea would make the "story" believable.

So whatca' got? Any proof?

Mike
