Today, after using my "52" 8N for a couple of hours, it blew the hydrolic lift cover gasket and oil went shooting out. I did have the box blade attached and had about a hundred pounds of wooden post loaded on it. Was this too much load, or could something else caused this, or was the gasket just weak at that point? I'm looking for advice. Thanks!!

Check the Archives under "Hydraulic" or "gaskets". I believe the same thing happened to someone about a month ago. Lots of ideas flowed his way on this board.

You didn't overload it, there is a releif valve in there and you could probably have the front end of the tractor lift without hurting anything.

I believe the phrase is "crap happens" I just finished fixing my 2N,the lift cover gasget blew out to the inside. I reamed the oil passage holes out to fit a piece of steel tubing and cut a recess to accomodate an O ring like the hundred series tractors have. While it was apart I did the lift cylinder and the pump gasget as well. The only weak spot on mine now is the chamber gasgets on the pump.
