Hi all, I went to change the manifold gasket on my 49 8N, when I loosend the two nuts and the two bolts it seeped coolant. It had 2nuts and 2 bolts instead of four nuts on studs, could the bolts be in a water jacket? I stopped immediatly and re tightend everything just to be sure. Thanks Rick

Yep, the manifold studs go into the coolant jacket. Get some sealer. Best to drain the coolant system, chase the threads, install some sealer and run the studs back in.

Rick..... ..what Ray said..... ...and..... ...
torque the 7/16-14 manifold block studs to 50 ft/lbs and then torque the BRASS 7/16-20 manifold nuts to 27 ft/lbs..... ....respectfully, Dell

So should I replace the two bolts that are in there now with studs? And use brass nuts? Thanks again.

Rick..... ...yes, I'd recommend using studs and BRASS NUTTS. ALL EXHAUST NUTS corrode and freeze to the stud. Brass nuts are soft and will strip their threads leaving the tighter and stronger stud still sealed into the block. Then just clean the fine thread part of the stud while still in block and you're good to go. You use steel nuts and they will corrode and freeze to the stud and when you try to replace your manifold, they will cause your studs to un-screw from the block and cause leaks. Bottom line, use BRASS EXHAUST NUTS..... ....Dell
