Well I was beginning to think that I was never going to get my 8N running, But thanks to many good suggestions from many of you guys I finally went for a ride today. It is running, But in the process of getting it running I burned out the starter switch (not a big deal). Once it did finally run I noticed some sparks coming out from between the head and the exhaust manifold. Also it won't idle down without dying. I figure this is because of the manifold leak. Is there anything tricks or anything when replacing the manifold gasket? Also is there a reason why the gasket would blow out??
Thanks
Rocky

I had a similar situation. New manifold because mine was cracked, new tune up parts, water pump and electrical. Then, it started and died. Checked compression. had 1bout 105 to 110 lbs generally. I put the old rotor cap bac on and it started right up. It appeared as if the new kit fron Tractor supply had a rotor that would not sit down on the shart far enough. Never throw your old parts out till the job is complete. Oh and by the way. In the winter time, when troubleshooting is simplier by removing and air restriction. I just disconnect the air filter because one time the oil in caused my 8N to run bad. Now I am using a 2 stage Motorcycle filter in the winter.

I HAVE NOTICED PARTS VARIANCE WITH THE 8N DIST PARTS. IF YOU HAVE AN 8N SIDE MOUNT, I HAVE FOUND THAT THE 1948-1955 FORD CARS AND TRUCKS USE THE SAME ROTOR AS THE N SIDEMOUNT. GOOD LUCK
