Getting ready to rebuild the top plate on my 49 8n all the parts will be in Monday. The lift arms are removed and have removed 14 bolts that hold the top cover on. The only other bolts left are the 4 that holds the ram cylinder on. I took a pry bar and placed it at the rear of the top plate and gave a good amount of pressure and its still there. Seems like its stuck or am I missing something? Trying to be careful not to break anything. I do have the shop manual. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks LL

NorthTX,8N. I had the same problem getting it off with a 9N last fall. When I got it off, it was full of crud. Took the power washer to it and flushed all the ports out. A power car wash would probably work as well. Came out nice and clean and works very good. Good luck & safe tractoring. Ron

I have a 49 8N also. I did this same job several months ago. It took some effort but the top plate came off by prying with a 3 foot crow bar. If you have all the bolts out there is nothing else holding it. Check, I can't remember if 14 is the correct number.

I took a 8 foot long 2x4 and pryed between the lift arm and axle housing it popped right loose last year.
