While waiting for a new ing switch, I started looking a the wiring on my N. It apppears that they have by-passed the resistor block. It has the #1 coil wire connected to the right side of the resistor, with a short wire to the switch. Does this mean it is running at a full 6 volt all the time? Maybe this could have something to do with my 'short-time' runner! The correct connection should be the #1 coil wire to the left side and the yellow switch wire to the right side. This is according to the BIBLE FO4. Right? Any suggestions on how to remove the 'rusted' screws holding the risistor in place?

Idaho..... ...Unfortunately, some well intentioned but miss-informed shadetree mechanics decide to by-pass the "infamous ballast resistor" for hotter sparkies and eazier starting. Well yeah, that'll work for a short time before the frontmount ignition coil completely melts its insulative tar and really shorts out its gutts and NO SPARKEE. Amazingly enuff, the coil semi-fixes itself overnite and then starts up when cold the next morning. Thus proving the shadetree mechanic's fix. (for about 1 hr).

I think you've got a basic understanding of the 3-terminal ballast resistor mounting block. Center terminal is battery "HOT" with one lead of your ignition switch also attached. Other ignition ON lead goes to one side of the ballast resistor, and the other side of the ballast resistor lead goes to the frontmount coil terminal.

Oh yeah, there's always the posibility that your current ballast resistor is open (in-op) and that might be the reason for the apparent by-pass. In that case, yer still gonnna haffta worry about a BAD COIL, bad resistor, bad ignition switch..... ....respectfully, Dell

Looks like I'am 2/3's of the way there Got the new coil, ing. switch is on the way; I'll get the new ballast resistor too. Thank for the help! Bob
