I would like to isolate the starter problem. It is not engaged. Engine turns easily by hand. 12 volts on starter does nothing. No clicks at all. What could be causing this. thanks

You possibly have the starter brushes hung up in the brush holders. Should be easy to pull band and check using a wire hook

Oslo..... ...if'n ya puts a jumper battery DIRECTLY on the starter motor terminal (tranny in neutral) and the starter motor doesn't spin....its yer starter motor. If'n yer starter motor spins but the engine doesn't turn over, its yer starter bendix drive. If'n your engine turns over, its yer starter solenoid..... ..pretty simple really..... ....respectfully, Dell

Dell, I know it is the starter. I would like to know what the problem might be in the starter. Starter was rebuilt two years ago. Tractor has not run and it has been in the elements. Would this be something that I can fix or is this a job for a repair shop. thanks

Can you tell if the starter is hung up in the ring gear ( tractor in high gear- rock back and forth to free up )

SouNdguy; Starter wasn't hung up. I took the starter off the Jubilee. Took it back to the man who rebuilt it 2 yrs ago. He turned it over, said it was making a noise he wanted to check. He said it was still under warranty.
