Just bought my first tractor. Thanks to everyone on this discussion board, I've learned a lot. I have a problem that I could not find in the archives. The clamp (p/n 7HA12273) that holds the side mount distributor in place, is loose on the distributor shaft. The screw on the back of the clamp it tightened all the way. Has anyone had this problem before? Do I just need to buy a new clamp? The previous owner had run a stiff wire from one of the distributor cap retaining clips to the front axle to hold it in place. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the help I get on this board. I'm going to pull the distributor, put the clamp in a vise and try to restore it. If straighting it doesn't do it, I'll try cutting the slot bigger. Either way, it's faster than locating and waiting for a new one. I'll always have that to fall back on.
Thanks again.

If the gap is squeezed shut already, take the clamp bolt out and remove the bracket from the distributor body.
Clamp the clamp in a vise and cut the slot back open with a hacksaw with two identical blades in the saw frame to make a wide slot.
This will give your clamp more room to close on the distributor body.

YOU PROBABLY NEED A NEW CLAMP. YOU COULD TAKE THE DIST OUT AND TAKE THE CLAMP OFF AND SQUEEZE THE ENDS TOGETHER IN A VISE TO RESTORE THE ORIGINAL SHAPE OF THE CLAMP. WHEN YOU TAKE IT APART YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN. GOOD LUCK.
