Hi All,
I'm rebuilding my 1952 8N engine. It had free rotating exhaust valves and I'm replacing them with the same.

THE PROBLEM.

The new valve locks will not seat properly in the valve spring cup.

I found out that when the two halfs of the locks are put together the center diameter is smaller than that when compaired to the old ones. The old lock work fine with the rest of the new parts, valve, valve guide, spring & cup.

The new locks dont close around the valve stem enough which keeps the whole thing from sliding down into the cup and seaating properly.

I plan on using a round file on each lock half to open up the center hole a bit.

I was wondering if anyone else came across this problem and if so what did you do to fix the problem?

Thanks.
Paul

I doubt if you can file the keepers as they are hardened. Would not think it was a good idea anyway. Never seen the problem. Have never seen one of those keepers break. Unless you want to go back to the vender use the old keepers.
