'Low' is a realitive term. Low in my new truck would be a different low than my 50 year old tractor. Many people are happy with -any- positive oil pressure at hot idle. That is.. like someone else mentioned... at hot idle.. if he can see a few pounds of oil.. and, that number climbs into the teens at hi-throttle when hot.. that is more or less' ok'.. even if it is not ideal. Slight possibility of a weak spring in the oil bypass valve.. but probably just a tired engine. Next oil change try moving to straight 40 wt oil.. (or 20w50 or 15 w40.. etc.. for those who like multiviscosity oils ). And check that spring when you get a chance. It is also not unheard of to merely have a bad gauge.. especially if it is original.. a new cheapy auto store one is about 9.99.. like a sunpro for instance. Fits right in the original hole, and 'bolts' right up. You may get lucky. Try the gauge, then the spring... and if all else fails.. try 40wt oil... just don't run it with 0 pressure. If you get the time.. post what your 'low' readings were. thanks Soundguy
