I just bought a replacement starter for my 9N, and I cannot figure out how to get the pin through the starter clutch and starter. It doesn't seem to fit in the hole. I took it back to the shop that I bought it from, and they said I had to just force it in there with a hammer or something. Before I break it, I wanted to see if anyone else had any good advice.

I'm not certain that we are talking about the same parts, but I recently bought a new clutch type starter drive from New Holland. Regardless of what I did, including "squeezing" it, the hole in the starter drive would not line up with the hole in the shaft that is attached to the armature. I took the new clutch type starter drive back to New Holland and they examined it and they couldn't understand it either. They took that part back and I then bought the "old" type starter drive from them and the holes lined up just fine.

Assuming you have the correct pin..... .you may need to "squeeze" the bendix together to fully expose the hole. The pin, when aligned properly, will be a tight fit, ie, you will need to tap it in w/ a hammer. You may try grinding a little bit off of the edges so that it will get started in the hole, or putting it in the freezer for a while.
