I just rebuilt my top plate and cleaned out all the slime and grit out of the hole hydraulic system. Not to bad but how does all the grit get in the system. (Grit like real fine sand.) Shift boot good, new bushings in hydraulic shaft, all new gaskets, PTO cover. I change hydraulic oil once a year, and my 8N stays in the shop when not in use. I do a lot of dirt work with my 8n, but don't understand how the dirt get in the system. Am I missing something? Thanks Larry

Draft control, I did fix it with a "O" ring so it wouldn't be lose but didn't think of the PTO lever shaft. Going to "O" ring it too. Friday sounds like a good day because the weather man said its going to rain. Were 11 inches behind for the year.

I changed all fluids in my n and removed the hydraulic pump and cleand it out good. this was in sept. about the end of NOV. I took it apart and guess what i had water in the hydraulis. I had kept it coverd with a tarp. when i removed the PTO shift lever and cover it must have leaked water for weeks. The way Its made It will hold water till it fills haft way up and then leak thru to the inside. also will leak around the draft controll spring at the rear of the hydraulic cover. I still think the hydraulics worked better with the dirt and water n'er

Don't forget about all those times you open the cap to fill 'er up and Ye Olde Wobbly Dipstick. Granted the boot is the most likely source, but dust and all kinds of things make their way in.

I would guess from/thru the boot.. but from a previous owner.. and it just hangs around in there.. etc..

It would be nice if the system could have a filter added easilly.. perhaps a suction strainer or something..
