My dad and I have started an overhaul of our 1948 8n that's been in the family since 1970. We have the engine removed and will begin teardown tonight to determine which kit to purchase. I am interested in knowing if there is any quality differences in the overhaul kits on the market today. We are doing a complete overhaul except we hope to just turn the crank, wear permitting. Also does anyone have any information regarding 8n or Ford tractor clubs in Georgia or the southeast. Thanks

Ron -- You and your dad probably already know this but it's worth mentioning. If you are only going to grind the valves, be sure they get back in the same holes they came out of. To keep track, take a piece of 1x2 or some such and drill 8 holes in it to stick the valves in as you remove them. Mark an arrow incidating the front of the engine on the stick. Easy way of keeping them all organized. (for what it's worth) --Cap--

Ron-

Doubt there are any appreciable differences but different kits have different components some of which you may not need. The important thing is to lathe the crank to the proper next size if it must be lathed. This site and others will tell you what the next size bearings are. AND, make sure you reinstall pistons and rod caps in the same cylinders they came out of.
