I know this is way OT but, I know alot of you guys have built shops and buildings, I have been in the thinking process of it for a long time, this spring summer and fall had it ready to go, but it has been so wet I didnt get to it,, but I am this yr for sure, here is my question and dillema.... I was planning on putting up a say 30x50 or so building, I wanted heat, water, 220 electric, lighting you know complete,, plus a concrete floor,, wasny real sure whether I was going stick built or sort of prefabbed,, what was the total cost for some of your buildings???..

because I have a chance to buy a building already built, already to move in with all the things I need and then some .. larger than I was thinking of building, and is only about a mile or 2 from my house\farm\shop,,, trying to decide if it is worth paying a little more for a finished building ready to move into, or build mine and have to finish all the interior things and be in a shop by late summer early fall,,, just bouncing it around ,, I guess long story short,, what did your building cost TOTAL when finished,,, thanks pat,,, ok ok it will house many of my tractors now it aint so OT,,, Pat

Your right my first one was small so I built another one 48 X 60 for around 30,000.00 complete. I do my work in the small one and keep my tractor in it out of the snow during the winter. When my daughter is done with cows this will be my new shop for storage. Mark H.

Could you buy this building and have it moved to your property. Sometimes that can be pretty cost effective.

Haven't built my building yet but have been looking and most I have seen have been a bit more expensive than prices given but depends on area too.
As for the other shop, look at pros and cons.
A few:
Cons not right where you can watch it or use it to best advantage.
Pros are things like if business, people want be bothering you at home, can borrow money on it with out tying up home, and if things get tough you can always rent it out and not have hassle in your own yard!
Just a thought.

My 2 cents. I would give some thought to the convenience of having your shop very close to your home. Sometimes I go into my shop for very quick jobs, like flipping a part over to prime or paint the second side, run in the house for a quick bite, etc. For me, even having my shop only a mile away I would find inconvenient.
Good Luck.

well the convenience part really isnt that critical, I have a farm, with a barn not dedicated to really one thing, but want\need to have a shop and building dedicated to just tractors\trucks and such,,,so for fast small jobs there will be part of a shop I can go to, I was more looking for the ease, and convenience of having a move in shop ,, as opposed to what happens all the time, the shop gets put on the back burner, ,, I appreciate the help. I was not far off on ballpark $$,,,but yes the fact of having a shop close has to be looked at , I just didnt give enuff info on my situation, this would not be my only place,, but could eventually be my main,,pat

Had one built last spring. 24'x36', 4" concrete floor on 4+ inches of gravel (had to do some grade work). 10' tall and an 8'10' overhead door. Walls are vertical 2x4's on 24" centers and 2x4's horizontaly Don'remember how far apart. Roof is prefab trusses and insulated. Colored metal roof and siding. One walk in door and four windows. Also had water and drains for a stool, shower and sink stubbed in. Ran the electrical myself. $9200.00. The single most expensive item was the concrete.

I did a 30 x 50 2 years ago, building was $5700 assembled, concrete cost me $2300,probably got $500 in electric(did it myself),so with lighting and everything you mentioned other than water, close to $9000. Hope this helps,

Tim

I built this shop myself for $4,800.00 and that included the wiring and concrete. It is 18 X 24 and is big enought for working on my tractor and trucks. If I had it to do over again I would have made it twice as large. Just depends on what you want when finished. Mark H.

Well I don't have the cement floor or water but my shop is about that big and I only have about $200 in it. I built it all from slavage stuff the main frame is moblie home frame and the roof comes from a storm wreck building. As far as what you ask the building that is started as long as its big enough probably will be cheaper then going from the ground up unless you can find a deal or do something like I did
