NEED HELP RE DIST

I have a late model 52 8N with a side mount angle dist. the dist. body turns almost 180degrees back and forth within retainer plate. I have tried to tighten the screw and nut that goes through the split ring houseing as seen in FO-4 manual on page 60. My question is I see pins and rivets (FIG. FO88) could one of these pins or rivets be broken allowing the dist. to turn back and forth. The main bolt that goes through the retainer plate into the block is tight. Any help and advise would be appreciated. ONTRICK

The pin and rivet hold the drive gear to the shaft, and the collar that controls shaft endplay to the shaft. They have nothing to do with securing the distributor body to the engine front cover.

If the distributor is down into the front cover as far as it should be, and the aluminum distributor housing is not broken, tightening the HECK out of the clamp screw SHOULD secure the distributor.
