I recently cleaned the air fliter on my 8N. The cup that holds the oil has two circular chambers for oil. A small interior chamber with small holes at the top and a large exterior chamber. Should i fill both with oil or just the exterior? The oil level line is almost right at the top of interior chamber.

Thanks,
Ryan

When I took my air cleaner apart for cleaning, I wire brushed the inner bowl and discovered writing around the edge. It said to fill the cup with oil until the oil level reached the top of the little spike in the center, and also to use the same oil as the engine. As others have said, if you fill one up, the other fills up with it.

Hope that helps.

Jeb

Ryan..... ..yep, thats the way it is. Fill to the line and it'll slop over into the center chamber. (which is the unfiltered air passage). In operation, all most all your oil gets sucked up into the mesh metal filter medium, which trapps the dirt. When the engine is turned off, the oil drains the dirt back down into the outer donnut chamber where it is supposed to settle out..... ...Dell

I think you find that if you fill to the fill line.. some oil will flow into the inner cup till equalized.. etc.

Remember to clean the mesh material in some kero / diesel, .. oil, then shake out excess.then re-install
